You may have seen Larry Lawesome out and about in Alberta. We think our unicorn is the perfect representation of Litco Law because finding lawyers you’ll love used to feel too good to be true. But we’ve turned that “mythical” idea into a reality. Be sure to give Larry a high hoof if you ever see him in the wild. He’s hard to miss and never shies away from a photo op!
How It All Started
The Litco Law story began in the 1970s, when Larry and Marianne Litwiniuk were starting their young family in a rented basement suite in Edmonton while Larry attended law school at the University of Alberta. He dreamed of becoming a lawyer and being a voice for those who needed an advocate.
After Larry graduated, the family packed up and moved back to Calgary, opening a small office called Litwiniuk & Company in the neighbourhood of Forest Lawn (now International Avenue). Larry and one receptionist handled the work for the first few months, but it didn’t take long for the word to spread. Meanwhile, Marianne had opened her own accounting firm and would help out with the books and office management wherever she could. But soon her talents would be needed full time.
It truly was a family business. Their three children grew up helping wherever they could: from the mailroom to deskwork and even cleaning the office. Everyone pitched in and the family business permeated every area of their lives.
Larry became known for his relentless compassion and tenacity. He’d call clients on Christmas Day just to check in. He’d sit at kitchen tables, listen to people’s stories, travel all over Alberta, and fight for those who’d been told they didn’t have a chance.
That belief that every person deserves fairness, kindness, and respect became the heartbeat of the firm. And it still guides everything we do today.
Passing the Torch
After decades of building something truly special, Larry and Marianne passed the torch to their children who grew up surrounded by lessons in hard work, empathy, and service.
Todd and Fred continued their journeys in the firm as law students, learning the practice from the ground up, and later became lawyers dedicated to serving Albertans. Over time, they stepped into leadership and ownership roles as Litwiniuk & Company evolved into Litco Law, carrying their family’s legacy into a new era.
Today, the brothers hold the vision and steer the ship at Litco Law as Owners, and Holly Litwiniuk is the Director of Brand & Communications. Under their leadership, Litco Law has grown from a small Calgary practice into Alberta’s largest personal injury firm and one of the province’s most trusted names in law, expanding to include Long Term Disability, Employment, Malpractice and Class Actions.
And through it all, one thing hasn’t changed: we still treat every client like family.
Where We’re Headed
From day one, the Litwiniuk family set out to challenge what people expect from law firms. They built a place where lawyers lead with heart, teams thrive through connection, and clients feel genuinely cared for.
“We knew that if we got the team right, everything else would fall into place,” says CEO Todd Litwiniuk. “We wanted to build a culture where amazing people could do meaningful work and feel proud of the difference they make every single day.”
“We’ve always believed that happy teams create happy clients,” adds Fred. “You can’t truly care for others if you don’t feel cared for yourself.”
