spring clean

Craving a reset after a long winter? Aren’t we all! We’ve transitioned from snow to sun and back again (perks of Canadian living!), but it seems like the cold is finally gone for good. Litco Law is embracing the green season with some classic spring cleaning— and we’re starting from the inside out. Inspiration starts from within, after all! It’s the perfect time to show some love to your mind, body, and spirit… so keep reading for 4 self-care tips that will make you feel as fresh as the springtime blooms.

Embrace the great outdoors

With lockdowns and late snowstorms, we’ve spent more than enough time inside lately. But there’s a light at the end of the tunnel— literally! Temperatures are rising, the sun is shining, and the vitamin D is flowing. This sunshine vitamin activates genes that regulate the immune system, release happy neurotransmitters, and optimize brain function. So if you feel like your body is screaming for some exercise and fresh air, it probably is! Get out for a walk and turn that phone on silent. Experts recommend 10-30 minutes of midday sunlight several times a week!

Treat yourself to some fresh spring meals

When you’re in winter hibernation mode, the heavy food cravings are real. Research actually shows that fewer daylight hours lead to higher carbohydrate intake— especially in folks who suffer from seasonal depression — so don’t judge yourself for that late-night pasta binge. Instead, use springtime as a catalyst to reset your habits! Clean out the fridge, toss or donate the snacks that don’t serve you, and refocus on eating in a way that nourishes your body. This handy meal planning website helps you with healthy recipes and gives you a corresponding grocery list to get back on track.

Declutter your headspace

If your mind is messy, the effects can spread out into the rest of your life. Just like our cabinets and cupboards, our headspaces also need tidying up! Consider trying out meditation to identify that non-essential mental baggage. It doesn’t take much— as little as five to ten minutes a day is enough to see a difference in focus and productivity. Best part? There are multiple free and fun apps to help you get started.

Re-evaluate and re-center your priorities

If you’ve been feeling weighed down and disconnected from your goals, know you’re not alone. It’s easy to lose track of priorities, especially in the midst of a pandemic… but that doesn’t mean your targets are out of reach! Start your journey back to better with a list of all the things that truly make you happy. Then, make a list of how you spend most of your time. How do the two lists compare? If you’re not budgeting in enough ‘you time’, it’s perfectly okay to drop the hobbies that no longer spark joy. Life is about enjoying the little things!

Remember, an empty tank will take you nowhere. Take time to refuel this spring, and the adventures will follow! We hope these self-care tips help you find that reset you’ve been searching for. And as always, we’re here to chat if you need help on the legal side of things. Happy blooming, friends!
