While in law school, Vi-An was part of the Students Appeals Project where she assisted a local solicitor with criminal appeals. She was also the student Project Leader volunteer for Restore, a national organization that works to rehabilitate survivors of human trafficking. Working for the ACPS, Vi-An regularly appeared before the Provincial Court of Alberta for criminal docket, bail hearings, trials, and sentencing. She also had the opportunity to assist with drafting a bail application, factum, and fresh evidence application that were submitted to the Court of Appeal.
