Vi-An completed her articles with, and briefly worked as a prosecutor for, the Alberta Crown Prosecution Services (ACPS). Prior to articling, Vi-An obtained her Bachelor of Arts, with Honours, from York University, and thereafter worked as a Legal Assistant with the ACPS while completing her accreditation (NCA) exams as she received her law degree abroad from the University of Exeter.
While in law school, Vi-An was part of the Students Appeals Project where she assisted a local solicitor with criminal appeals. She was also the student Project Leader volunteer for Restore, a national organization that works to rehabilitate survivors of human trafficking. Working for the ACPS, Vi-An regularly appeared before the Provincial Court of Alberta for criminal docket, bail hearings, trials, and sentencing. She also had the opportunity to assist with drafting a bail application, factum, and fresh evidence application that were submitted to the Court of Appeal.
Vi-An is a Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer survivor which led her to be part of the Ambassador Leadership Committee for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada, Prairies Region. She also dedicates her time to volunteering with various animal rescues and volunteers on the Pet Cancer Foundation’s legal team. Vi-An enjoys staying active and trying new things, her favourite activities are: yoga, pilates, tennis, and snowboarding. Her current and newest obsession is tactical laser tag. Vi-An also really enjoys reading and tries to read one fictional novel a month.
