Core Value Champion: Nyat Haile

Feb 15, 2022

At Litco Law, our core values are the essence of who we are and the guiding force behind everything we do. Each quarter we nominate a member of the team who exemplifies our values of Own It, Empathy, Kindness, Ask Why, and Don’t Blame. Today, we’re celebrating someone who stands out as an inspiration to the team in these values and everything she does – our very own, Nyat Haile.

Nyat Haile

People and Culture Coordinator (Edmonton)

Joined Litco Law in September 2020.

Own It – You Make a Difference

Owning it is about raising the bar – for yourself, your team, and your organization. It’s about being that person who always puts their hand up and looks for ways to make a difference, generates great ideas, and is ready to give it all they’ve got to see things through.

As our People and Culture Coordinator, Nyat owns it for the team with her support and passion for making a difference. She creates a phenomenal experience for new hires and has taken the initiative to evolve and elevate our onboarding process. In addition to her role, Nyat has taken the lead for several projects, including finding ways to promote wellness across the entire team.

Empathy – Walk the Mile and Take the Extra Step

It’s important to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes to understand what they are going through. But that’s just the first step. Once you understand the feelings and the situation, you must do something to help the other person. Empathy is putting compassion into action.

Dedicated to making everyone’s lives a little better and a little brighter, Nyat hosted Litco Law’s first-ever Wellness Week this year. She understands that every person faces challenges, and she’s committed to finding meaningful ways to help. This meant finding resources to support the well-being of the team and being at the forefront of ongoing wellness events and programs. Thanks to Nyat, the entire Litco Law team now has unlimited access to Headveristy, an app that delivers mental health training and tools right to your pocket.

Kindness – Help Others Feel Great About Themselves

Kindness isn’t just about putting on a smile when someone walks through the door, it’s about genuinely wanting to make others feel wonderful about themselves. At its heart, kindness is about being sensitive to those around you and actively listening to what others have to say.

Nyat radiates kindness in everything she does, and her warmth is truly contagious. Team members describe her as “the coolest and kindest person” and we couldn’t agree more. Nyat actively looks for ways to make a positive difference for those around her. She is so passionate about bringing out the best in each team member and inspires us all to be extra kind!

Ask Why – Challenge the Status Quo

It’s been said that the most dangerous phrase in the English language is “we’ve always done it this way.” Rather than just accepting the status quo, it’s important to step back and look at why things are done a certain way—because that’s how we grow and get better, and keep moving forward with fresh ideas!

This past year, Nyat really pushed herself out of her comfort zone by stepping forward to follow her passion for supporting the well-being of the Litco Law team as a whole. It isn’t always easy to host live events for an entire company, but she did so in an incredibly engaging way that had a really positive impact. Nyat saw an opportunity to bring more connections within the team and looked for ways to bring everyone together.

Don’t Blame – Point the Finger at Yourself

At Litco Law, we never throw someone else under the bus, or walk away saying “that’s not my problem.” Instead, we point the finger at ourselves first and hold ourselves accountable by looking at our own contribution to a situation.

Mistakes happen. But they are also a great learning opportunity. When something goes wrong, it’s tempting to want to point the finger. Nyat always comes from a place of positivity and wanting to find a solution, rather than laying blame. She always asks what could have been done differently, and then finds a way to create a better process for next time.

From all of us here at Litco Law, we want to say thank you to Nyat for being such a wonderful example of our Core Values, and for making such a positive impact on our team! We are grateful for you!!
