Core Value Champion Part 2: Jonathan Noorduyn

Feb 8, 2021

Welcome to Part 2 of our Core Value Champion celebration, where we take a moment to recognize the incredible efforts of Litco Law team members! In Part 1, we introduced you to a Process Improvement Specialist who embodied our core values to a T in 2020. Now, it’s time to meet our second Core Value Champion for Q4—none other than Managing Lawyer Jonathan Noorduyn!

Jonathan Noorduyn

Managing Lawyer

Joined Litco Law in May 2010

Core Value: Own It

Owning It is more than just completing tasks—it’s about taking things to the next level and making the role your own.

Having recently celebrated his 10-year anniversary with the Litco Law Personal Injury Lawyers team, examples of Jon’s willingness to Own It are almost too numerous to name! Since his beginnings with the firm, Jon has persistently brought a rare level of enthusiasm and engagement to every case and project that he touches. In fact, when he took on the responsibilities of a Managing Lawyer, he went the extra mile to give equal attention and care to both his own files and his team members, making sure neither were neglected as he moved into the new role. Plus, he’s always ready to share knowledge with new team members to get them started with Litco Law on the right foot.

Core Value: Empathy

The ability to see the world through another’s eyes is a key part serving injured people as a Personal Injury Lawyer—but it’s equally important within the firm. We’re at our best when we understand each other, and Empathy is the first step in doing so.

Having once been an articling student, Jon knows firsthand the anxieties and concerns that new students tend to have. That’s why he sets our articling students up for success by making himself available to answer questions and provide guidance from the moment they walk through our doors. Students know that they can always count on him as a pillar of support in their journey to becoming a lawyer.

Core Value: Kindness

Sometimes, the kindest thing you can give someone is your time and attention—and that’s especially true in times of great uncertainty.

When we found ourselves at the beginning of the pandemic, the legal team was beginning to feel disconnected from one another. Seeing this, Jon took matters into his own hands by frequently checking in with everyone to ensure they felt secure, respected, and optimistic. After the fact, several team members came forward in appreciation of his efforts, praising his kindness and friendliness—and we’d have to agree!

Core Value: Ask Why

At our firm, Asking Why means digging deeper. Rather than just accepting the status quo, it’s important to step back and look at why things are done a certain way—because that’s how we grow and get better.

This core value is what makes Jon such a great person to learn from. When helping to guide his fellow team members, he never accepts the easy answers—rather, he actively encourages them to explore alternative viewpoints, develop new ideas, and grow their knowledge. On top of this, Jon strives to find efficiencies and ways to build our knowledge so we can better serve our personal injury clients in their time of need.

Core Value: Don’t Blame

In problem-solving situations, patience is a virtue. It’s easy to get upset when things don’t go as planned, but it’s a far better use of time to jump in and work toward a solution.

Don’t Blame is at the core of Jon’s work philosophy. When team members come to him with questions, concerns, or requests for help, he never turns them away. Whether it’s intakes, client meetings, new hires, or training, he always has time to lend a hand without a word of complaint. By giving team members the opportunity to learn and grow without fear of mistakes, Jon fosters an incredible working environment that makes a massive difference for all of us.

Thank you for setting an amazing example for everyone here at Litco Law. Your commitment to the core values our firm was founded on hasn’t gone unnoticed, and we can’t wait to see what 2021 brings!

Well, that wraps up our two-part series! If you missed Part 1, click here to catch up! See you next time.
